10 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD START JOURNALING NOW!

Hello, everyone! I hope you’re all doing well today!

This post will most likely, be falling into the “life” category of this blog lol. It is a topic that I’ve become quite passionate about, only because I’ve come to witness the impact that this small change has already made in my life, and that is journaling.

I’m sure we’ve all heard about it, read about it and probably even tried journaling at some point in our lives. But let’s just remove the whole stigma around the journals for a second. Forget regarding them as therapy diaries, forget regarding them as boring, pointless or un-impactful plain pages that nobody will actually read or use, and just hear me out. Whether you’re someone who doesn’t keep journals or someone who does and is interested in knowing more about why journals are very much in your favour. Here are my ten main reasons why I suggest you start journaling. Like, now (although you don’t have to, obviously, no but seriously).

1. Important Reminders of The Incredible and Humbling Moments of Your Life:

This is probably one of the most profound reasons why anyone should start journaling. But I just had to put this in here because it’s so true. There is no human out there that can just absorb valuable and mindful information without writing it down. Yes, we have planners, to do lists/books etc. However, those tools hold more of an academic influence. What more people need is a balancing notebook for them to actually be vulnerable and to record what’s most important and inspiring to them. Because we can forget things. I’m quite thankful for the things I’ve been writing down since I was around 14. Had I just not had those words written down on paper, to this day I would’ve neglected all of my simplified thoughts because life eventually takes over the free spirit we’ve all once had – so it’s a great way to keep it in some way.

2. An opportunity to study yourself!

Jounals are a chance to become your own scientist! I mean, not literally, unless you’re actually studying to become one. My point is, in life, you must know yourself! By knowing yourself I’m not talking about nick picking at what’s wrong because there isn’t anything wrong. This is just a great way to keep track of your own power and how to use it wisely.

Call this process what you like, but I quite like the concept of studying and learning more about one’s self. We can reveal new perspectives, new concepts, new ideas and new creativity which is a powerful force for personal growth.

3. A Chance to Elevate/Improve Your Writing Skills:

When I was little, I used to observe peoples handwriting and be in absolute awe of how different they would look compared to others. I think it says a lot about people and in my eyes, there is no good or bad handwriting. Everyone’s brings character to them and so I think to have an opportunity to practice, or improve the way you write is great! Yes, it’s a simple thing, but we write things down all the time and this in itself is an expression of individualism. I now enjoy spending hours writing because I enjoy the art of writing itself. Seems like a small change, but because of it, I’ve been writing a lot more in my spare time now and as well as helping me bring my thoughts to life, my writing skills are constantly improving.

4. Reduces Stress & Anxiety:

I’m not saying that this is the answer to all problems, but sometimes the only person that can listen to you is yourself. And how would you do that? By writing it down first then reading it over to yourself. You’ll later find that you won’t carry that exact same emotion reading it over as you did when you wrote it which, in turn, then helps you relieve stress. Pretty interesting if you ask me. It’s also a great way to look at situations without reacting to them. You’re now in a more open space where you can re-read your thoughts and decide whether you want to keep them due to how you’re feeling in the present.

5. Create a Vision Book Filled with Mood Boards of Your Life!

Whenever you pick up a journal and read it, you open a new portal of a judgment-free zone! This is your chance to write down all of those things you may have wanted when you were younger, write and pin down all the things you may have wanted to change, the things you may have wanted to create etc. Use, pictures, stickers, designs, letters, whatever you like! There’s no harm in keeping your dreams organised and keeping a journal is perfect for exactly that.

6. Become The Person You’ve Always Wanted to Be: Affirmations

This reason/step alone can be life-changing. It pretty much goes hand-in-hand with reason No.1 because then, you can create specific affirmations based on the personal information you’ve gained about yourself. The thing is, anything that is done consistently eventually becomes a reality. Not many people (including myself) are completely comfortable with waking up in the morning, hopping out of bed and saying out affirmations in the mirror (although that is amazing), nor do people even have the time to do so sometimes. However, having a list (yes, you will end up with a list) of affirmations and reading them silently each night is no different. because you’re essentially reading a book based on your life that is becoming. Which brings me to reason No.7!

7. You’ll Become An Established Author Of Your Own Life:

In your own right, you have, in fact, become a writer. Writing down your personal growth is one of the most courageous things one can do. You’ll have your own novels based on your life, volumes based on certain times of your life and a literal mark that you’d have left in this world. And better yet, YOU are the one who’s written it.

8. Record Your History, Your Achievements, and Lessons You’ll Later Pass On:

Journaling is by far one of the greatest ways to consistently organise your mind, build your personal intelligence and become more in tune and comfortable with yourself. We’re never, not learning something new. So wouldn’t it be great to pass on some of that knowledge? To our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren or even a young person who seeks some personal grounding. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to re-visit my journal to answer a question that I had already answered years ago. We don’t actually realise the gold mines we’re sitting on until a wake-up call has to happen. So if I was to recommend a book for you to read in your life, It would be the one you wrote.

9.   The Impact It Will Have On Your Life Without You Even Realising it:

The main point I’d probably like for you to take away from this is that it’s not about writing full pages for 365 days a year. It’s literally to record those moments you know will later help you in the future. Just to keep on track of your mindset and desires without being influenced by an outer voice. Sometimes we can stop ourselves from our greatest opportunities which are just around the corner, by not reminding ourselves of whats really important in the moment it happens. It’s different for every individual and that is completely okay.

10. See Journaling Differently & How to Start Without Being Pressured To Write Every Day:

If you’re someone who may have struggled with journaling in the past or has been pushed away by the idea of committing (like I have), here is a tip that could hopefully change that. Every night when you come back from school/work or right before you go to bed, write down an experience you had that day (good or bad). We all go through a thoughtful realizations everyday but what writing it down will do is enable you to think differently each day. This will allow you to become allies with time and you will soon take those lessons you’ve learned into action. Not to mention, there’s no better time to write this than after a long day filled with experiences. See how it goes, if you miss a day – it’s completely fine because, with journaling, you’re sure to learn something new about yourself.

Phew, I know this was a long one but I hope this helped in some way. Sending virtual hugs your way if you actually read through all of my 10 reasons!

There’s no real motivator like a good pen when it comes to journaling. And it can be a little annoying writing with a pen that only lasts you a short while or doesn’t perform well. So, I’ve come across a wonderful brand called PrettyPens.

REVIEW: NIP+FAB Contour Palette & Liquid Highlighter

In this blog post, I’ll be reviewing a couple of products from Nip+Fab that I ordered not too long ago.

So it was after hitting pan on the Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Contour Refills, (that I used to set my makeup with) that I subconsciously went on a face powder/palette hunt and soon found myself on Superdrug checking out on a Contour Palette with a lovely looking variety of shades and a beautiful deep golden liquid highlighter that was on sale. ^-^

NIP+FAB Contour Palette

For a while now I’ve found that when it comes to powder makeup, having a variety of shades to choose from is one of the best things anyone can do since no face is simply one tone. I like to use contour palettes to lightly set my makeup, contour and brighten my under eyes.

  • Packaging

Rating: 4.5/5

One thing I absolutely love about the packaging is that the lid is see through! It really helps me a lot on days when I’m in a rush because then I know exactly which product to reach for – a small, but very useful feature. I also like how compact this product is, I didn’t realise just how petite this palette really was until it came in the mail, but it’s actually perfect to travel with. It’s lightweight and slim enough to fit into almost any bag/compartment.

  • Shades

Rating: 4/5

The palette comes with six powders: (from the top left) Tan, Chestnut, Cocoa, Sugar, Soft Honey and Sunset.

All shades apart from Sugar are matte. Sugar has some iridescent sparkles in the pan – like a very understated highlighter. I like to mix this shade with Tan and Soft Honey when I want to brighten my under eyes just a bit – it works perfectly fine without looking glittery.

I did find that some of the shades in this palette were quite similar in tone. But nonetheless, I like having a variety of options to set, contour, blush and even apply as eyeshadow. I also like to use Chestnut and Soft Honey to set the face sometimes.

The contour shade, Cocoa has the perfect undertone without looking muddy – I also like to mix Cocoa and Sunset (the orange shade) together to bronze the skin on days when I really want to achieve that sun-kissed look!

  • Pigmentation

Rating: 5/5

When my Nip+Fab package came in the mail, the first thing I was adamant about doing was to check out the shades in the palette (unaware of its pigmentation). and let me tell you, these powders are full of pigment. These aren’t powdered foundations in any way, but I’d still say it gives medium to full coverage as you can really build it up if you wanted to, or sheer it down depending on the type of brush you use.

  • Application/Texture

Rating: 4.5/5

When you apply these powders, you will face some simple fall out, however, the texture of these powders make up for all of that. It’s so buttery in texture it’s unreal, its almost like you can’t mess up only because you have full control of how you apply it and how much of the product you need. All that I’d suggest when applying, is to use a light hand as you blend.

The finish of these powders are definitely matte, so I like to use a face mist right after setting the skin.

(Please excuse my watching skills… ^^)

  • Long-wear

Rating: 4.5/5

It holds up pretty well compared to other powders that are actually meant for keeping the face matte. I’d totally depend on this for a long day.

My thoughts

I’d recommend this product to anyone who’s looking for a good face powder/contour palette. I find It best to have options of colours to choose from instead of having one face powder that likely ends up giving a flat finish. I’d go for a face palette over buying one face powder, this palette carries six colours and it’s only £15.

Now I will say although the price is a little high for a drugstore product, I’d still repurchase this product because of the quality, value and efficiency of the palette. Plus the pans last a fairly long time.

NIP+FAB Liquid Highlighter

  • Packaging

Rating: 4/5

It’s cute. But sometimes if not handled too gently, the product can get a little messy. There’s a lot of product in this small bottle, though it’s easy to clean so…

let’s just say, if I wanted to travel with this, I’d keep it in a small tightly sealed bag/pouch just to be safe. ^-^

  • Colour

Rating: 5/5

It is stuniiiiing! Nip+Fab carry 3 different shades of this illuminator and I essentially went for this one (the darkest) because right went I clicked on it I could only imagine how beautiful this bronze Deep Gold shade would look for the summer. And I wasn’t wrong, it is indeed stunning.

  • Pigmentation

Rating: 5/5

Very pigmented. Like, so pigmented 😉 – but no, I’m actually serious, it is. You can, however, sheer it down if you wanted to so needn’t worry, this will not serve you the tin man look.

  • Application/Texture

Rating: 5/5

There are a number of ways to use/apply liquid illuminators, but the best method that I’ve found to apply this one, (for me that is) it to mix it in with foundations to either dilute the coverage or give them a glow. For instance, I like to just mix a dot of this product with my Fenty Beauty Foundation (in 440) to add a little glow as well as to soften the texture of the foundation because it’s very matte – I find that mixing this with matte foundations gives a really nice balance.

You could also use this as a primer, or dot this on the highest points of the face to create a glow.

I prefer liquid or cream based highlighters/illuminators as the finish results in a more natural texture, whilst some highlighting powders tend to look artificial. But then again, it all depends on the type of look you’re going for.

  • Long-wear

Rating: 4.5/5

I haven’t really paid no mind to its lasting effect, though I will say that this product does set once left on the skin. Also, if you mix this in with your foundation it’ll last for as long as your foundation lasts without altering it’s staying power.

My thoughts

I’m not going to say that this product is a necessity, because it isn’t. However, I think that if you have any summer, beachy, bronzy, glowy makeup looks in mind then this is a perfectly small makeup essential to add to your collection – enabling you to go all out with your glowing goddess embodiment.

I love how small this is, it carries 15ml of product which in my eyes, is a lot because a little goes a very long way. Trust me. Anyways, I love this product and I will be using it all throughout this summer. ^-^

So if you’re also a lover of Liquid Gold, I’d highly recommend this liquid illuminator to you. 😊

Nip+Fab carry 3 different shades of their Contour Palette:

01 LIGHT £15.00 – (Currently on sale for £10.00 in Superdrug)

02 MEDIUM £15.00 – (Currently on sale for £10.00 in Superdrug)

03 DARK (the one I own) £15.00 – (Currently on sale for £7.50 on Nip+Fab.com)

Nip+Fab Liquid Gold Illuminator:

01 White Gold £12.95 (currently on sale for £6.48 in Superdrug)

02 Rose Gold £12.95 (currently on sale for £6.48 in Superdrug)

03 Deep Gold (the one I own) £12.95 (currently on sale for £6.48 in Superdrug)

LIPSTICKS YOU NEED TO TRY THIS CHRISTMAS! (BLOGMAS: Day 6)

If there’s one way to treat yourself without feeling guilty this December, it’s by buying a new lipstick to add to your collection!

It’s something small but it goes a long way, not only to lift your mood but also give you a fresh look!

Here are my top six tried and tested lipsticks perfect for this holiday season.

NYX High Voltage Lipstick – “Feline”

Finish: High Shine

Probably the most hydrating and pigmented lipstick out of all the lipsticks I’ve tried. NYX has a wide range of colours to choose from in this collection – so comfortable on the lips and lasts a long while, whilst leaving a nice smooth fade on the lips towards the end of the day – so easy to re-apply but that’s rarely needed. If you don’t already have a lipstick from this range, I’d highly recommend trying out “Feline”, the lipstick I wore in my “Downton Abbey Inspired Makeup Look”.

Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss – “Merlot”

Finish: Glossy (Highly Pigmented Lipgloss)

This lipgloss has to be one of the shiniest yet most pigmented glosses out there on the market. Matte warmed up skin, lashes and this lip equals festive all around. An amazing yet very unique lipstick to add to your collection.

Tanya Burr-Bear-Hug-Lipstick-734563Tanya Burr “Bear Hug” Lipstick

Finish: Satin

I can’t put into words how luxurious this lipstick feels when applying it. I feel like this lipstick is one of those ones that’ll be kept in my collection because of its pretty packaging ^-^. Not only is the packaging well made but the quality of this lipstick is just so true to colour it’s wonderful. I appreciate the fact that Tanya Burr worked on this collection with the intentions of giving nothing but high quality. And for just 6.99 it is SO worth it.

Illamasqua Lipstick – “Growl”

growl lipstick

Finish: MATTE (Very Matte)

This is by far the most matte lipstick I have ever tried. if you don’t fancy extremely matte lipsticks then this probably isn’t for you however, the shade of this has such a lovely deep plum to it with brown undertones – totally a favourite nonetheless and looks fabulous contrasted with glowy skin.

Sleek Makeup True Colour Lipstick – “Dare”

Finish: Matte

This shade has just the right amount of ‘berry’ in it – such a flattering shade to wear when you don’t feel like wearing a red lipstick. For anyone who’s just getting into reds or darker lip colours in general, Sleek’s True Lip Colour in “Dare” is the one to go for.

coloured raine

Coloured Raine Matte Liquid Paint – “Cherry Blossom”

Finish: Comfortable, Matte Liquid Lipstick

Okay so, of course, whats a Christmas edition lipstick recommendation post without recommending a red lipstick? And I know I’ve already mentioned this in a couple of posts before but I just had to mention this yet again because I cannot stress how much of an AMAZING lip colour this is. It is the definition of the ‘perfect red’. The number of times people would compliment my lipstick whenever I wear this is crazy. As long as this is in stock I will always turn to re-purchase this specific red. The lipstick that I know suits not only mine but ANY skin tone!

That concludes my top recommendations for this holiday season! comment below if you have any wintry lipstick faves, as I’d love to know!

GREAT EXPECTATIONS Review

I had the pleasure of viewing Derby Theatre’s newest Production, Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, adapted by Neil Bartlett – Directed by Sarah Brigham.

The actors flow within their characters in the most effortless and captivating way possible, interestingly brought to life and carried with some of the same crafty elements Dicken’s has in Pip’s narrations. I liked that even though the play is not nearly as long as the novel, this production tells and mirrors not only Pip’s journey but the principle of everyone else’s — each single part becomes significant which makes the whole performance quite powerful.

From the set, designed by Barney George to the scenario, staging, and story — together make the play give off a dark, intense yet humorous and thrilling vibe in the most anticipating way. The performance was complemented by quite cold textured yet harmonic music, composed by Ivan Scott. The absorbing, classical sound fitted in extremely well with the critical discoveries, the inner conflicts, and subtle engagements with the audience within the performance. All coordinated with the ethereal yet gloomy lighting, done by Tim Skelly – enabling the audience to really experience the story with the characters.

The costumes outstandingly replicated not just the clothing worn in the early 1800s, but fittingly represented feelings through each character, displayed beautifully. I must say Miss Havisham’s costume was a personal favourite of mine — not to mention the detailed wedding makeup, I loved it.

This compellingly gripping and light-hearted performance was truly spectacular. And without spoiling too much, the production also featured fire and water… It’s epic.

To be able to bring such a classic and deep story to life is already magnificent but to showcase it with ease is exceptionally incredible.

Thank you, Derby Theatre for yet another memorable production.

REVIEW: Skinny Coffee Club 28 NIGHT PROGRAM

Good Evening Everyone,

Due to the many requests for my thoughts on the Skinny Coffee Club: NIGHT EDITION, your wish was my command and so here, I’ve brought to you my in-depth review! **Drinks the coffee**

Skinny Coffee Club 28 DAY PROGRAM Mini Review:

As many of you know, I have a good relationship with Skinny Coffee Club’s 28 Day program. Though they are widely known for weight loss transformations, I personally use this coffee in my daily morning routines for maintenance as that’s been working well for me ever since. I’m obsessed with that coffee. It’s the only coffee I prefer black with no milk/almond milk that I think is lovely. If you’re a morning person, this coffee is perfect for you!

Skinny Coffee Club 28 NIGHT PROGRAM

It’s been a full week since I’ve received my Skinny Coffee Club 28 Night Edition and although it’s far from finished, I thought I’d share my experience with this coffee so far.

I’m on Day 7 and the first thing I have to say is: I’ve been getting good sleep! I no longer have trouble getting up in the morning (sounds funny, but seriously) I used to wake up with such heaviness in my body that even when my mind would be so motivated to get out of bed, my body wouldn’t get the memo.

Personally, I’m not fond of snoozes on a daily basis so when I can, I set my alarm to get up and start my day the minute it rings. Ever since last week I’ve been up without a problem, I’m not quite sure if this coffee is the reason why I get better sleep but, one thing I know for sure is that it is the ONLY thing that has changed in my night routine since. I’ve also noticed that this coffee holds fewer ingredients than the original, which is interesting.

Q&As:

Is it better to drink this coffee with milk or without milk? Personally, I like this coffee without milk. I sometimes drink the day coffee with milk but to be honest it’s based on personal preference for that time of the day.

Skinny Coffee Club does recommend you drink this plain but if you wish to add milk, they recommend you use coconut milk or almond milk. Regular milk is also fine as I’ve tried it before but I would like to mention almond milk adds that bit of flavour to it quite nicely. Clearly, this coffee is very versatile which I love.

What is the Skinny Coffee Club: 28 Night Edition supposed to do exactly? Raise your metabolism, burn fat and aid with digestion overnight.

Which is very much true, this week I feel, as well as have been told that I look slimmer. I used to have a bloating problem months before drinking Skinny Coffee Club. This has definitely changed things for me on that part, if not a little more effectively than the 28 Day program.

Is this coffee actually okay to drink at night? Absolutely! This organic, night coffee is formulated with all natural and calming ingredients. It did not affect my sleeping pattern at all.

Does this coffee have caffeine in it? Nope! The Night Edition Coffee is fully decaffeinated.

What’s something you like most about this coffee? I’d say it’s very calming yet also effective! I don’t know how it works in that sense but it seems to give me the best of both worlds; relaxing whilst raising my metabolism which I’ve noticed.

Balance: 4/5 This coffee does not have any caffeine in it so the taste is mellow yet the complexity is neutral and relaxing, I think it’s perfect for evenings

Aftertaste: 4.5/5 I love that it’s not too strong

Aroma: 5/5 Just lovely! This always puts me in the right mood to go to sleep haha

Body: 5/5 quite full and nourishing

My Overall Thoughts

Since this coffee is meant to be had at night, I find myself naturally gravitating towards this more than the Skinny Coffee Club 28 DAY program.

I always make time for a cup of tea, green tea or peppermint tea before bed as that’s just part of my night routine. With this night coffee, it feels exactly the same way, more relieving knowing it’s purpose.

If I were to recommend any Skinny Coffee Club package to anyone, I straight away mention the Night Edition. I feel like this can fit right into anyone’s night routine, since the days ended and you’d have enough time on your hands to relax and really get to enjoy the coffee!

Once again, Skinny Coffee Club brought out yet another lovely, convenient coffee suitable for any routine. And so far, I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

Our experts have worked tirelessly to provide you with the ultimate solution for quick, fast and effective weight loss in the tastiest way possible.

BLUE HUES: Eyeshadow Look + Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette Review

image

As one of my birthday gifts from my amazing Aunt, I graciously received the Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette. Ironically I mentioned in my previous blog post that I would be playing with more colours in my looks this spring/summer, and I think I have the perfect palette to do so.

In combination with this colourful/wearable look I’ve created, I thought I’d include a review on what I think of the palette.

 Mini Review:

First off, the black/sleek packaging is gorgeous! I literally gasped once I realised what I was opening. With the palette comes a large built-in mirror. It’s durable, meaning it’s a travel friendly makeup item I’d take for the mirror especially.

I had so much fun creating this look. Working out the textures in these eyeshadows was interesting, as I notice they don’t perform ‘well’ when you swatch them but it’s when you apply them onto your lids they’re so soft, pigmented and workable anyone can use this.

I think it’s made for you to pick up the product (with a brush) and work it onto your lid as opposed to a swatch on your hand to tell the quality of the eyeshadow.

They’re so easy to use, even when mixing the shadows they didn’t separate at all.

I love the fact that these shadows are based on the rainbow. There’s so many different looks you can create, from really bright and fresh eyes to really dark and moody eyes the list goes on.

In the future, I feel like it’ll become a makeup essential of mine.

I will say that there was a little bit of fall out but it’s no issue of mine since I do my eyes before my base. Overall I’d recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a colourful palette or if you just want to add a really pretty palette to their collection…

image

 Creating The Look:

I was inspired to go for a bright ‘Blue Hue’ look on the eyes whilst adamant to keep it simple yet bold at the same time. I think with any eyeshadow look, blending is the most important step towards making a bold colour wearable on the eyes. The main focus was blue. Icy, light blues blended in with touches of pink to suit my skin tone. I personally think this look can suit just about any skin tone with the right colours to complement each other.

image

I used 5 shades out of the palette:

  •  “GOSSIP” (Shimmer/Metallic, Hot Pink)
  • “BLINDSIDED” (Satin/Shimmer, Sea Blue)
  •  “DELIRIOUS” (Sheer Shimmered, Chalky Purple)
  •  “METAMORPHOSIS” (Duo-chrome, Sheer Shimmered, Chalky Blue)
  •  “BUMP” (Matte White)

Priming:

When working with multiple colours, it’s always a good idea to start with an eye primer to get the best out of your eyeshadows. I have extremely oily eye lids when wearing makeup. But I find that when I add a tiny bit of the NYX (waterproof) Eyebrow Gel, my eye makeup will not budge (until I remove it of course). It is a great, yet an affordable way to prime if you have really oily lids like I do. If dry, try a hydrating concealer or just go for a traditional eyeshadow primer.

I set my eye base with a skin-toned eyeshadow (1-2 shades brighter) using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette, although any neutral/warm eyeshadows will do.

image

Full Spectrum Eyeshadow Application:

To make this look more chic, throughout the whole process of the eyeshadow blending I made sure that the shadows were diffused upwards to give my eyes a cat eye shape without needing winged eyeliner.

Starting with “GOSSIP” this shade went slightly on top of L’Orange (ABH Contour Powder, but any orange-toned bronzer will do) to emphasise a smooth transition into the blues.
Next was a pinch of “BLINDSIDED” right underneath “GOSSIP” then going straight in with a synthetic flat shader brush (I used the brush it came with) packing-and-buffing this quickly onto my lids.
I then Mixed both “METAMORPHOSIS” + “BUMP” right over the lids (twice), to help brighten and give a more pastel tone to my lids.
Lastly (this part is optional) I added a little bit of “DELIRIOUS” right over the crease to blend “GOSSIP” and “BLINDSIDED” together, again to help show of the blue slightly more.

Products Used:

💖Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette 💖

  • Eyebrows: Any Brow Pencil
  • Concealer: L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer “Fawn”
  • Foundation: Stila Stay All Day “Cocoa”
  • Powder: Mac Studio Careblend Pressed Powder “Dark”
Contour: ABH Contour Refill Powders “Carob” + “L’Orange”
  • Setting Powder: RCMA “No Colour” Powder
  • Liner: (I only lined my lids without a wing to give a sleeker look) NYX Matte Black Liquid Liner
  • Mascara: Bourjois “Queen Attitude” + Maybelline “Stiletto Voluptuous”
  • Blush: Any Pastel Pink colour will do (on the cheekbones)
  • Highlighter: There are so many cream highlighters, any will work. I like to use a good goat haired blush brush to lightly apply and quickly pat the product onto the tops of my cheekbones. This method will prevent your foundation from moving while giving you a nice glow✨

REVIEW: Mikasa Powder Contour Set

**This review is not sponsored**

On a recent Instagram post, I shared my unboxing of a new brush set I received from of Mikasa Beauty. I wanted to share my thoughts on one of their brush sets I received, as I’ve used them enough to explain how much I love this bundle!

Mikasa Beauty is a new brush company that specialise in creating high quality, high end makeup brushes as your essential tools when it comes to everyday looks or dramatic looks. These brushes give you the luxury to apply your products with precision and ease.

First I’d like to rave about how fast this set came in the mail. The company is located in Canada and I live in the U.K., I ordered this on a Monday and it arrived on Thursday. I was expecting at least another week before it’d arrive at my doorstep, but the fact that the process was simple and straight forward without any delivery complications made me fall in love with the brand already.

The set I ordered was the Mikasa Contour Powder Set.

This set includes:

1 of Mikasa E300 – Blending Brush ($12.00 value)

Mikasa’s Description: Best used for controlled blending and smudging of eyeshadows, this tapered medium sized brush has soft bristles and a round top. Over a quick amount of time, this brush has been the one tool I have used for all of looks lately.

I absolutely love this brush, it would be hard to make a mistake with the soft bristles it holds. As well as the right amount of density the shape of the hairs has for precise application. This is definitely one of my top favourite brushes out of the set.

1 of Mikasa F111 – Blush Brush ($17.00 value)

Mikasa’s Description: A dome shaped brush with natural bristles that’s ideal for precise application of powder face products. Use this brush to perfectly apply and blend blush and bronzer for a natural glowing complexion.

This brush is so versatile, not only for blush and bronzer but this has been a great brush for setting my makeup. Once again the bristles are so soft while applying which is great and blends very well.

1 of Mikasa F250 – Kabuki Brush ($21.00 value)
Mikasa’s Description: The perfect brush for buffing on powder products for a flawless finish. The short handle and soft, fluffy bristles allows for smooth, controlled application.

1 of Mikasa Techni O2 Oval (S) Brush ($25.00 value)

Mikasa’s Description: The perfect multi-purpose tool. This brush can be used for precise application of Contour products. It can also be used to apply a soft wash of colour to the eyelid or brow bone. It easily blends Powder or cream eye shadows, face powders and liquid or cream concealers in the hard-to-reach contours of the face. Made of 100% synthetic fibres. Features an ultra-durable, flexible handle, and a tilted brush head for ultimate precision.

I think out of all the brushes in this set, this brush was the one I was quite intrigued by the most. I have not used an oval brush before but when I tried this to apply my cream products it felt absolutely smooth on the skin. I’d recommend Mikasa Oval brushes as these do have the quality feel and smooth bristles that are at times hard to find with the huge market of oval brushes.

**This brush was kindly sent to me for free from Mikasa so it would not be included in the set**

1 of Mikasa E310 Pencil Brush ($12.00 Value)

Mikasa’s Description: This brush has a small, rounded tapered tip that allows for precise application and smudging of powder products. It can be used to soften eyeliners or to highlight inner corners of your eyes.

From highlighting certain places of the face to letting you create a smoked out blended look, this is lovely multi-tasking brush to have in your collection.

Each brush came in their own little box fitted to its shape individually and I absolutely loved the sleek finish packaging it arrived in. On each box, had the name of which brush was inside and what it was used for. Along followed directions on how to take care of them, which I thought was very helpful. Overall, when I saw the brushes I immediately thought of how clean cut and great quality the handles were – I couldn’t wait to use them. I’ve been using these brushes for about over a week now and I can’t get over how soft they feel, it’s lovely. Whether it’s an everyday look you’re going for or a detailed glam, they’re so versatile and I love it!

The Mikasa Brushes can be bought individually in case you have your eyes on a specific brush, though I would 100% recommend this set in particular as this really has your go-to essential tools for just about any makeup look you want to create.

If you’re someone who needs a staple essential kit for your face routine, or you’re a makeup artist that’s looking for good contour brushes to add to your kit, or if you just love adding another nice brush set to your collection then this is for you.

This set retails for $55 (with value of $75).

I think the quality of these brushes is amazing and worth every penny. I will be purchasing more of the Mikasa collection in the near future.
