November 19, 2018 – QUOTE OF THE DAY

It’s always the smallest things that make life worth living for. Take a little bit of time out of your day to look around yourself, spend time with the people that make you feel happy and content. Perhaps consider treating yourself to a favourite book or movie at the end of the day. We all deserve to enjoy life as we create. Notice those joyous moments as you live and life will secretly reward you with even more blissful experiences!

Wishing you all a wonderful week!

10 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD START JOURNALING NOW!

Hello, everyone! I hope you’re all doing well today!

This post will most likely, be falling into the “life” category of this blog lol. It is a topic that I’ve become quite passionate about, only because I’ve come to witness the impact that this small change has already made in my life, and that is journaling.

I’m sure we’ve all heard about it, read about it and probably even tried journaling at some point in our lives. But let’s just remove the whole stigma around the journals for a second. Forget regarding them as therapy diaries, forget regarding them as boring, pointless or un-impactful plain pages that nobody will actually read or use, and just hear me out. Whether you’re someone who doesn’t keep journals or someone who does and is interested in knowing more about why journals are very much in your favour. Here are my ten main reasons why I suggest you start journaling. Like, now (although you don’t have to, obviously, no but seriously).

1. Important Reminders of The Incredible and Humbling Moments of Your Life:

This is probably one of the most profound reasons why anyone should start journaling. But I just had to put this in here because it’s so true. There is no human out there that can just absorb valuable and mindful information without writing it down. Yes, we have planners, to do lists/books etc. However, those tools hold more of an academic influence. What more people need is a balancing notebook for them to actually be vulnerable and to record what’s most important and inspiring to them. Because we can forget things. I’m quite thankful for the things I’ve been writing down since I was around 14. Had I just not had those words written down on paper, to this day I would’ve neglected all of my simplified thoughts because life eventually takes over the free spirit we’ve all once had – so it’s a great way to keep it in some way.

2. An opportunity to study yourself!

Jounals are a chance to become your own scientist! I mean, not literally, unless you’re actually studying to become one. My point is, in life, you must know yourself! By knowing yourself I’m not talking about nick picking at what’s wrong because there isn’t anything wrong. This is just a great way to keep track of your own power and how to use it wisely.

Call this process what you like, but I quite like the concept of studying and learning more about one’s self. We can reveal new perspectives, new concepts, new ideas and new creativity which is a powerful force for personal growth.

3. A Chance to Elevate/Improve Your Writing Skills:

When I was little, I used to observe peoples handwriting and be in absolute awe of how different they would look compared to others. I think it says a lot about people and in my eyes, there is no good or bad handwriting. Everyone’s brings character to them and so I think to have an opportunity to practice, or improve the way you write is great! Yes, it’s a simple thing, but we write things down all the time and this in itself is an expression of individualism. I now enjoy spending hours writing because I enjoy the art of writing itself. Seems like a small change, but because of it, I’ve been writing a lot more in my spare time now and as well as helping me bring my thoughts to life, my writing skills are constantly improving.

4. Reduces Stress & Anxiety:

I’m not saying that this is the answer to all problems, but sometimes the only person that can listen to you is yourself. And how would you do that? By writing it down first then reading it over to yourself. You’ll later find that you won’t carry that exact same emotion reading it over as you did when you wrote it which, in turn, then helps you relieve stress. Pretty interesting if you ask me. It’s also a great way to look at situations without reacting to them. You’re now in a more open space where you can re-read your thoughts and decide whether you want to keep them due to how you’re feeling in the present.

5. Create a Vision Book Filled with Mood Boards of Your Life!

Whenever you pick up a journal and read it, you open a new portal of a judgment-free zone! This is your chance to write down all of those things you may have wanted when you were younger, write and pin down all the things you may have wanted to change, the things you may have wanted to create etc. Use, pictures, stickers, designs, letters, whatever you like! There’s no harm in keeping your dreams organised and keeping a journal is perfect for exactly that.

6. Become The Person You’ve Always Wanted to Be: Affirmations

This reason/step alone can be life-changing. It pretty much goes hand-in-hand with reason No.1 because then, you can create specific affirmations based on the personal information you’ve gained about yourself. The thing is, anything that is done consistently eventually becomes a reality. Not many people (including myself) are completely comfortable with waking up in the morning, hopping out of bed and saying out affirmations in the mirror (although that is amazing), nor do people even have the time to do so sometimes. However, having a list (yes, you will end up with a list) of affirmations and reading them silently each night is no different. because you’re essentially reading a book based on your life that is becoming. Which brings me to reason No.7!

7. You’ll Become An Established Author Of Your Own Life:

In your own right, you have, in fact, become a writer. Writing down your personal growth is one of the most courageous things one can do. You’ll have your own novels based on your life, volumes based on certain times of your life and a literal mark that you’d have left in this world. And better yet, YOU are the one who’s written it.

8. Record Your History, Your Achievements, and Lessons You’ll Later Pass On:

Journaling is by far one of the greatest ways to consistently organise your mind, build your personal intelligence and become more in tune and comfortable with yourself. We’re never, not learning something new. So wouldn’t it be great to pass on some of that knowledge? To our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren or even a young person who seeks some personal grounding. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to re-visit my journal to answer a question that I had already answered years ago. We don’t actually realise the gold mines we’re sitting on until a wake-up call has to happen. So if I was to recommend a book for you to read in your life, It would be the one you wrote.

9.   The Impact It Will Have On Your Life Without You Even Realising it:

The main point I’d probably like for you to take away from this is that it’s not about writing full pages for 365 days a year. It’s literally to record those moments you know will later help you in the future. Just to keep on track of your mindset and desires without being influenced by an outer voice. Sometimes we can stop ourselves from our greatest opportunities which are just around the corner, by not reminding ourselves of whats really important in the moment it happens. It’s different for every individual and that is completely okay.

10. See Journaling Differently & How to Start Without Being Pressured To Write Every Day:

If you’re someone who may have struggled with journaling in the past or has been pushed away by the idea of committing (like I have), here is a tip that could hopefully change that. Every night when you come back from school/work or right before you go to bed, write down an experience you had that day (good or bad). We all go through a thoughtful realizations everyday but what writing it down will do is enable you to think differently each day. This will allow you to become allies with time and you will soon take those lessons you’ve learned into action. Not to mention, there’s no better time to write this than after a long day filled with experiences. See how it goes, if you miss a day – it’s completely fine because, with journaling, you’re sure to learn something new about yourself.

Phew, I know this was a long one but I hope this helped in some way. Sending virtual hugs your way if you actually read through all of my 10 reasons!

BEST PENS I RECOMMEND

PrettyPens: www.PensPrettyPens.co.uk

PRICE: £2.99

There’s no real motivator like a good pen when it comes to journaling. And it can be a little annoying writing with a pen that only lasts you a short while or doesn’t perform well. So, I’ve come across a wonderful brand called PrettyPens.

Based in Glasgow, Scotland, PrettyPens carry a wide range of beautiful classic themed designs with art work including, dogs, cats, butterflies, pandas, dragonflies, tartans and flags. All of their pretty pens also come in a free luxurious velveteen pouch for £2.99.

As soon as I received these I was delighted by the wonderful packaging these came in. Just looking at these pens made me feel so compelled to write! They also perform well so that’s a wonderful plus 😉

If you have a certain someone in mind, you know likes to write – I’d suggest a pen like this being the perfect gift for them. They’d appreciate it.

A huge thanks to PrettyPens for kindly gifting me their beautiful floral set. I love them so much!

How To Pull Off Any Bold Lip This Spring!

Happy weekend everyone!

Spring is finally here, (well, kinda lol) and this season is all about experimenting with the new, unusual and fresh colours in lipsticks, eyeshadows and even blushes!

I decided to dedicate this post to a question I’d been receiving a lot lately: How do you pull off a bold lip?

Simple right? well, although it may seem as easy as it sounds, a lot of the times I’d have people telling me they don’t wear bold lips, not because they don’t like them, but they feel as though they call pull it off. For a very long time, I felt like I couldn’t wear a bold lip – and believe me, it took some time for me to fully embrace wearing a bold colour whilst still feeling like myself.

Here are a few tips that I found over-time, helped me gain the confidence to pull off any lip colour without hesitation!

  • Prep the Lips

Its always best to have a fresh, clean canvas by gently exfoliating the skin before any makeup/lip application. This will ensure that whatever lip colour you wear, your lips are well prepped prior to lipstick!

  •  Start With Traditional Lipsticks!

I know, I know, its so old school nowadays but trust me when I say that you can never go wrong with a traditional tube of lipstick especially when trying out a new bold colour. With tube lipsticks, you actually have more control over not only how you want to apply it but how much of the product you’d like to start off with first – the simpler, the better and with tube lipsticks, you can go all out in experimenting and collect until you find that classic bold lip colour that you love.

  • Finesse the Lip Application

There are a number of different ways to applying lipstick, but whilst we’re on the topic of traditional lipsticks (and because I did use a lipstick in this editorial) I’d say that the best way to apply a lipstick is… from the tube ^-^ yup, no need for four different shades of lipliners, no overlining (unless that’s like, your thing then you go girl, that’s completely fine!), no complications – just you, your lipstick and your concentration is all you need with this technique!

Using the sharp end of your lipstick as a liner first, apply it around the perimeter of the mouth as if you’re using a lip pencil. The reason why this method is almost better than applying a darker lip-pencil first is that by applying the lipstick, this way keeps the application neat and true-to-colour! Apply another line layer right on top of the natural shape of your lips – once that shape is made, slowly fill them in and voilá! It could also help if you invest in a good quality lipstick for the sake of pigment and comfortability – there are loads to choose from but I personally like Makeup Forever’s lipsticks and Tanya Burr’s Lipstick range (gorgeous packaging too!)

  • The Clean Cut Finish

Now, in no way is this even a lipstick secret although I do sometimes feel like this step is overlooked, and that is to use the smallest flat, synthetic eyeshadow brush you own with a tiny bit of your foundation and use the duo to clean up the sides/edges of your lips as a reverse lip liner. I’m not over exaggerating when I say that this changed my life once I figured out how to use this technique for my lips. This is what creates that nice, clean, sophisticated and sharp finish to all of my lip colours including natural/nude lipsticks!

  • Own IT

I know that I sometimes find myself over-analyzing and spending too much time trying to perfect my lipstick of which there isn’t anything wrong with checking, but all in all its about how YOU approach your look before anyone else. Please do not let anyone make you feel like you can’t wear any lip shade, as I am here to tell you that you can pull off ANY lip colour/makeup look for that matter! Makeup is art, its fun! And if you’re enjoying your bubblegum pink lip moment, you’ve just gracefully pulled off a lip colour some would never dare to wear! And that’s the secret 😉

PRODUCTS USED:

FOUNDATION – Loreal True Match Super Blendable in 8N Cappucino

CONCEALER – MAC Select Cover-Up concealer

POWDER – Loreal True Match Super Blendable Powder (underneath the eyes, to brighten)

BRONZER/BLUSH – Sleek Bronze Block in Dark

HIGHLIGHT – Any cream highlighter will do, mine is, unfortunately, unbranded but I like to use a fluffy blush brush to apply the product to the tops of my cheekbones – this method does not move my foundation or concealer!

LINER – Poundland (surprisingly good! lasts ages and I’m on my second purchase)

MASCARA – Poundland (I’m not joking when I say that this product actually lengthens my lashes!)

LIP – Makeup Forever Rouge Artist Intense in 36 (no lip liner used! ^-^)

Hope this post gives you some tips/inspo on rocking a bold lip this spring! I’d love to know your comments/thoughts on this look!

Behind The Scenes at Derby Theatre: with Costume Designer, Tim Heywood

I’m so thrilled to dedicate this blog post to one of my personal favourite processes of Derby Theatre productions. Pretty much the element that can always pull a show together, that breathes life into characters’ looks; Costume. Here at Derby Theatre, we’ve had the chance to catch a glimpse of Derby Theatre’s Head of Wardrobe, Tim Heywood’s mind palace when it comes to working on the theatre’s most festive shows during the winter season.Costume Designer, Tim Heywood is responsible for the actors’ fitting yet striking ensembles you’ve seen in Derby Theatre’s Charlotte’s Web, Alice in Wonderland, Great Expectations, Gingerbread Man and many many more. With that automatically comes a process, a basic ritual that always starts with the script he’s working with. One of his favourite ways to help develop a clear idea of what he’ll be working on are patterns.

Tim’s costume work consists of designing, buying, or borrowing certain garments. However, mostly for reference, Tim likes to collect vintage patterns and compare them to today’s Victorian-style patterns as guidelines to create for his actors. Compared to today’s style of creating garments, one of the most significant differences are the seams. The seams done in the 1800s were sewn down the back for the appearance and improvement of posture. Those same seams worn today would make the actors feel uncomfortable, so Tim will then come up with alternatives.

When working on Period Shows like Great Expectations, Alice In Wonderland, Cinderella and so forth – there must be some sort of common ground between the 1800s style corset/dress and the comfort of the actors working in their costume. That’s where Tim’s innovation and technique comes in and works with what he refers to as the clues in his costumes. Besides the fact that it is a costume, he thinks about the characters themselves, from within, about their lifestyle, how they like to see things, how they like to dress, and what their look says about them from the audience’s point of view. It all comes into play and this season he’s working on the upcoming production, Peter Pan!

Here’s a behind the scenes scoop on Mr Heywood’s process towards preparing for the well-known classic!1. The File. This is perhaps the ideal bulk of the entire show, all put together into one file of which he likes to call his bible. This Peter Pan Edit contains:

  • Ideas that come to mind from director, Sarah Brigham or set designer, Neil Irish – more of a collaborative task
  • Mini Profiles of the cast members for their costumes, for reference and what could work for each of them
  • Contact details to call for measurements and alterations
  • Photocopied images for inspiration
  • The mood this production is going for; punk, theatrical vibes, the music, art form etc.
  • The characters themselves in the story and their atmosphere as well as their personal style

2. Meetings

  • Next, Tim will run through his file and lay out all the visuals of what the characters costumes could revolve around with the director until they end up with one main photograph for each character
  • He’ll then ask the director for a list of what instrument each actor plays or at least any hobbies they have, just to use as reference for the characters they’re playing – to give a more practical feel here and there

3. The Mindset

  • In this case, Peter’s story is not only being told but it’s also shown through what he’s wearing. To grab a sense of what he’s feeling and his mindset on things.
  • Once the main ideas are finalised, Tim finds his connection to the play through putting all the minor details and clues into a final design of his depiction of the costumes – kept in his portfolio/archive and works from there.

IMG_0032IMG_0031

To create anything from something you’ve interpreted from the mind is amazing, and to do that with a costume in my eyes would require a lot of patience and ease when focused. Tim Heywood takes pride in paying attention to detail in his work, very thorough. He designs these artistically exquisite illustrations and brings them yet again to life through materials that relate to his characters one way or another. Thanks to the rest of the DT Ambassador team for organising this behind the scenes walkthrough! And a very special thank you to Costume Designer, Tim Heywood for meeting with us and kindly sharing and allowing us to see, learn and document his incredible work!If you would like to book your tickets to see PETER PAN at Derby Theatre this winter, please click the link here

REVIEW: Skinny Coffee Club 28 NIGHT PROGRAM

Good Evening Everyone,

Due to the many requests for my thoughts on the Skinny Coffee Club: NIGHT EDITION, your wish was my command and so here, I’ve brought to you my in-depth review! **Drinks the coffee**

Skinny Coffee Club 28 DAY PROGRAM Mini Review:

As many of you know, I have a good relationship with Skinny Coffee Club’s 28 Day program. Though they are widely known for weight loss transformations, I personally use this coffee in my daily morning routines for maintenance as that’s been working well for me ever since. I’m obsessed with that coffee. It’s the only coffee I prefer black with no milk/almond milk that I think is lovely. If you’re a morning person, this coffee is perfect for you!

Skinny Coffee Club 28 NIGHT PROGRAM

It’s been a full week since I’ve received my Skinny Coffee Club 28 Night Edition and although it’s far from finished, I thought I’d share my experience with this coffee so far.

I’m on Day 7 and the first thing I have to say is: I’ve been getting good sleep! I no longer have trouble getting up in the morning (sounds funny, but seriously) I used to wake up with such heaviness in my body that even when my mind would be so motivated to get out of bed, my body wouldn’t get the memo.

Personally, I’m not fond of snoozes on a daily basis so when I can, I set my alarm to get up and start my day the minute it rings. Ever since last week I’ve been up without a problem, I’m not quite sure if this coffee is the reason why I get better sleep but, one thing I know for sure is that it is the ONLY thing that has changed in my night routine since. I’ve also noticed that this coffee holds fewer ingredients than the original, which is interesting.

Q&As:

Is it better to drink this coffee with milk or without milk? Personally, I like this coffee without milk. I sometimes drink the day coffee with milk but to be honest it’s based on personal preference for that time of the day.

Skinny Coffee Club does recommend you drink this plain but if you wish to add milk, they recommend you use coconut milk or almond milk. Regular milk is also fine as I’ve tried it before but I would like to mention almond milk adds that bit of flavour to it quite nicely. Clearly, this coffee is very versatile which I love.

What is the Skinny Coffee Club: 28 Night Edition supposed to do exactly? Raise your metabolism, burn fat and aid with digestion overnight.

Which is very much true, this week I feel, as well as have been told that I look slimmer. I used to have a bloating problem months before drinking Skinny Coffee Club. This has definitely changed things for me on that part, if not a little more effectively than the 28 Day program.

Is this coffee actually okay to drink at night? Absolutely! This organic, night coffee is formulated with all natural and calming ingredients. It did not affect my sleeping pattern at all.

Does this coffee have caffeine in it? Nope! The Night Edition Coffee is fully decaffeinated.

What’s something you like most about this coffee? I’d say it’s very calming yet also effective! I don’t know how it works in that sense but it seems to give me the best of both worlds; relaxing whilst raising my metabolism which I’ve noticed.

Balance: 4/5 This coffee does not have any caffeine in it so the taste is mellow yet the complexity is neutral and relaxing, I think it’s perfect for evenings

Aftertaste: 4.5/5 I love that it’s not too strong

Aroma: 5/5 Just lovely! This always puts me in the right mood to go to sleep haha

Body: 5/5 quite full and nourishing

My Overall Thoughts

Since this coffee is meant to be had at night, I find myself naturally gravitating towards this more than the Skinny Coffee Club 28 DAY program.

I always make time for a cup of tea, green tea or peppermint tea before bed as that’s just part of my night routine. With this night coffee, it feels exactly the same way, more relieving knowing it’s purpose.

If I were to recommend any Skinny Coffee Club package to anyone, I straight away mention the Night Edition. I feel like this can fit right into anyone’s night routine, since the days ended and you’d have enough time on your hands to relax and really get to enjoy the coffee!

Once again, Skinny Coffee Club brought out yet another lovely, convenient coffee suitable for any routine. And so far, I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

Our experts have worked tirelessly to provide you with the ultimate solution for quick, fast and effective weight loss in the tastiest way possible.

EDIT: Hello, Autumn

September is here!

This autumnal inspired editorial showcases this simple corset dress from Zara paired with my thrifted classic cowboy inspired ankle boots by Topshop which are one of my favourite go-to boots for Autumn/Winter months.

Overall this look is quite free-flowing and different compared to my other ones. And even though this edit is in black and white, the makeup is just a simple base with subtle feline cat-eyes, nothing too dramatic.

As we enter a new month I think this is the perfect time to reflect and refresh for autumn. I personally love Autumn/Winter season, it may be because of my love for vintage coats but my point is that there’s something so renewing and shifting as seasons change. Every time it becomes another opportunity to experience and define what’s you.

Me being only 16, I obviously still have a lot of time on my hands to find and develop my style and what suits me but lately I have just been experimenting with the term “less is more”. Not just in style but life in general. This past summer I’ve found myself picking up things I don’t often wear, letting my skin breath a lot more, reading more books with actual interest and focusing on my presence whilst being in the moment.

It’s easy to fall out of touch with yourself and not know what you want. I certainly have had those moments with trends (not just style trends) and in this day and age I think it’s important to capture and cherish what really shows your true self, that’s through living I suppose; figuring out what really inspires you and intrigues you. Life in all forms is beautiful and I’ve slowly been embracing that with ease.

Without babbling (like I haven’t already :/)

I hope you all have a lovely September!

Thank you so much for taking time to stop by The Belper

Vivienne Westwood Personal Shoe Collection Exhibition

It was a lovely Monday morning when I was chatting with my good neighbour about our obsessions with 1940-50s fashion. Soon a conversation was brought up about our top favourite designers and Vivienne Westwood was mentioned. It was at that moment she had told me about a Vivienne Westwood Personal Shoe Collection Exhibition running at our local museum. It is known that this person had been collecting Vivienne Westwood pieces for over 15 years, (basically, since I was born…) I literally got so excited about this collection that It would be no surprise to share my experience of viewing such art.

Vivienne Westwood who hails from Derbyshire where I’ve been fortunate enough to live for most of my life is one of the most emblematic, British fashion designers respectively. Well, known for her punk rock movement through her designs since the late 1960s/70s.

This collection sits in Pickford’s House Museum (a middle-class home built in 1770, now a museum) in Derby at 41 Friar Gate, Derby DE1 1DA

Open from 10 am – 5 pm Tuesday to Saturday (Closed Sunday and Monday)

The exhibition is free of charge, however, you can donate any amount by choice to help sustain the museum and future exhibitions.

On a Thursday, last month my mother and I went to visit the museum. I must say, I found the environment exceptionally relaxing and inspiring (for my artistic self, haha) the staff there were so welcoming and overall the environment made the 10 minute trip from our home well worth it.

The shoe exhibition was being held upstairs. At the entrance, we met a nice lady presenting the collection and at first glance, suddenly I was overwhelmed by the most exquisite, detailed, valiant shoes ever! Such a shoe girl’s dream (or at least mine). I was in awe of the quality and condition the collector had kept them all in!

Carnaby Buckle Shoes

Towards the left side of their entrance was more of some amazing Vivienne Westwood shoes! Including the iconic blue platform-heeled Super Elevated Gillies best known for Naomi Campbell’s famous tumble when she wore them at a catwalk show in 1993. Unfortunately, due to the lighting, the camera wasn’t doing the shoes any justice so I couldn’t capture them :/ But if you do happen to be in Derby I highly recommend visiting Pickford’s House before September 2017 to see them!

HammerHead Shoes

Seditionary boots

This unique collection includes their signature Pirate Boots, HammerHead Shoes, The Red Patent Leather Pumps and Black Spiky Shoes by Malcolm McLaren & Vivienne Westwood.

Pirate Boots

Union Jack ball-tie Dress

This dress (above) is by far my favourite piece from the exhibition! The dress is actually made of silk and if you look closely, parts of the dress were dyed in earth toned colours to form a design of the Union Jack. From the curved shapes to how the dress falls is absolutely gorgeous to me.

Personally, I feel like there was no better place to showcase this collection than Pickford’s House Museum. The house is beautiful, the shoes hold character, the two just go hand in hand. The fact that this home is over 200 years old kind of feels like time travelling to me. The minute you walk in is the second you encounter a different world, a different way of living and I find it quite interesting to naturally get to reflect upon this way of life being so young in a world full of evolvement, like seeing eye to eye with history right before me. I loved it.

You can really tell some of the shoes were inspired not only by punk but briefly from the  18th Century all the way back to the Golden Age of Piracy. This is what I have always loved about Vivienne’s work, the way she innovates, mastered and merged her love for the medieval era with her present punk-rock approach still wows me to this day. My absolute favourite collection she’s done would have to be “Queen of Sheba” by Mr Pearl for Vivienne Westwood’s 1995 Vive La Coquette (not a lot of photos from that collection, but absolutely phenomenal nonetheless).

If you’re interested to view more of Vivienne Westwood’s collections, I’d take a look at her website that holds her archive. I often visit her pages not just to gush over her dresses, but to get a bit of artistic inspiration from them. I almost get Alice In Wonderland vibes from her work. Hopefully, you’ll love them as much as I do!

It was so awesome to experience different eras at once with shoes!

I hope this post gives you a glimpse of Vivienne Westwood Inspiration as much as it did for me.

Hope you all have a lovely August!

Lots of love,
