Go-To Eye Look: Summery Shimmer

Lately, I’ve been simplifying my makeup looks when It comes to eyeshadow. I’ve only been using two main products to form one of my favourite beachy looks which is a nice blend of gold lids! Not much of a true gold but more copper-bronzed and suited to my skin tone.

These two products are all I use. I have extremely oily eye lids and ever since last winter I’ve been using a thin layer of NYX’s Waterproof Eyebrow Gel to prime them and never looked back. A little product goes a long way and out of all primers I’ve used to keep my eyeshadow in place, this has worked like a charm!

I used one eyeshadow, “Tiger’s Eye” from Too Faced’s Cat Eyes Palette all over the lids. I started off by buffing this colour on with a flat-shader brush to get a good shape, I then patted a little more product towards the centre of my lids to add dimension.

Finished the look with a good coat of mascara to really let that bronze hue shine through and added the same eyeshadow underneath the crease of my eyes (slightly) to balance things out.

This look complements all eye colours and every skin tone, it just depends on which shade of gold suits you best.

I was really inspired by Serena Van Der Woodson’s (from Gossip Girl ^-^)  bronzey lids that she used to always rock during her summer days! These eyes can go with just about any lip colour/outfit, effortless yet enhancing.

Let me know in the comments what you think.

I’m interested to know if you also have a quick summer makeup/skin routine and what that might conclude. Do you prefer on just enhancing a facial feature, focusing on the eyes, going lightweight on the skin or even creating a more flawless finish to your look? I’d love to know!

Thank you so much for stopping by The Belper!

See you soon

GLOSSY LIDS

So I finally got round to trying out the glossy lid look. A popular trend right now where you use eye gloss or even lipgloss (what I used) on your lids to create an ethereal glow to your makeup.

I will say this is more editorial rather than a wearable out-the-door makeup but depending on what type of look you’re going for – the “undone” eyes is also a stylish trend.

To create this was quite simple. Very straightforward and easy to customise to what you want.

First, I’d advise an eye primer (not that it’ll change the fact that it will crease and slide) but this will help with the eyeshadow stay in place whilst applying the gloss. In terms of what shade, that’s optional.

For my look, I went with a red/orange colour “Burnt Orange” from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette and blended this on the lids only.

The gloss:

To be honest, I think any gloss is fine to use. At the end of the day, it’s makeup and you can use it as to what you see fit – you can get creative with it.

I used a sheer pink gloss purposely because I wanted a pink hue around my lids. Doing so, I dispensed the gloss applicator across my makeup palette and used a fluffy synthetic eyeshadow brush (which I highly recommend) to pat-and-swipe quickly across the lids. This helps give an even coverage since we’re working with liquid.

I also did the same thing for my highlighter (note: I had already applied cream highlight prior) but took a beauty blender, dabbing into the gloss residue on the palette and quickly but lightly patted it onto my cheekbones, down the nose a little on the side of my forehead + cheeks slightly.

This is a look I think anyone can pull off. You can start small by adding a little gloss to a “no makeup, makeup look” or even adding gloss to a smokey eye.

The glossy lids look is not intended to be long-lasting, but is fun to try and get creative with.

I also tried this with a matte red lip

Hope this post gives a little inspo.

THE SPRING LIP EDIT

image

Spring is upon us and lately, I’ve been gearing towards a more fresh-faced makeup look. knowing that I will be doing more colourful looks this spring/summer, I thought I’d share my current go-to makeup look + my favourite lip colour at the moment.

Keeping within the ‘fresh face’ theme, for me, that is clean looking skin + a subtle/bright coloured lipstick. For example, switching from a deep red lip colour to a nude lip makes the biggest difference in anyone’s look with minimal effort. With that being said I’ve rediscovered a lip item that I’ve had in my drawer and haven’t put it down since.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick “07 Nude-ist”

The formula of Rouge Edition is the reason why I think this is perfect for spring: It does not dry matte, but once you apply – gives a nourishing, matte finish. A velvet finish if you will.

For me, sometimes I may feel like I don’t want the heaviness of a traditional liquid lipstick, however, I still want a matte-looking lipstick. This lipstick is right in between.

Pigmentation: This is another reason why I love it. Though it may not be to someone else’s ideal, I’d say it is sheer to buildable. Once you apply, it’ll give a sheer amount coverage but since the texture is very creamy, this allows you to add more coverage to your desire without build up.

The shade I have is “07 Nude-ist”. This one, in particular, is super versatile and through my eyes, a universal colour – bright, yet subtle.

Depending on what look I’m going for, I like to use a lip liner here and there but when I’m in a rush I simply run this across the centre of my lips and gently blend in with my fingers.

All in all: This has become a lipstick I always have to carry in my makeup bag. Whether it’s when I’m travelling or if I need a something on the lips but don’t know which lipstick to go for. This is a must have.

MY PAMPER ROUTINE

Sometimes it gets hard to find time to kick back and relax with busy schedules paired with the ‘no rest’ mindset. I’ve always been the person to create tonnes of lists and reminders to get things done, that I actually end up forgetting to take care of myself. For me, I think Sundays are one of the best days to unwind in order to take on the new week in perhaps a better mood.

They’re so many different pamper routines to choose from however by recording what I often do to relax, I’ve come up with 5 simple things you can do to unwind on your Sunday (or any day depending on what day works best for you)

1. Face masks

Using A face mask is probably my personal favourite way to relax. Aside from the endless benefits, any simple mask can give your skin, It’s a great multi-tasking product as you can either relax in a meditative state or work on other activities (which I’m about to tell you).

2. Reading

As a kid, I used to hate reading, but over time my philosophy on it changed for the better. As I’m homeschooled, reading plays a big part in my life. I think it’s a different feeling when you’re taking time out to read out of interest as opposed to reading for school or work. It’ll always benefit you regardless but for me, it’s one of the best ways I know to help one feel calmer and relaxed.

3. Tea!

I can’t speak for anyone else but I can assure you I drink plenty of tea, even when it’s not intended to relax. A Sunday afternoon cup of tea is something anyone can make easily, and with so many flavours of tea, now available to choose from a cup of tea is always a good way to relax. Tea also has nutritional and beauty benefits which are an added bonus.

4. Meditation

This is like a workout, but for your mind and without the subtle pains days later. It’s as simple as sitting in a quiet room, closing your eyes and concentrating on your breathing, that’s it. Meditation is something so straightforward yet heavily effective, on not only your body but leaving your mentality in a more peaceful state of mind.

Doing this for at least 5-10 minutes (when you wake up in the morning and/or before you go to bed) is all you need to notice a difference in the overall outlook of yourself when done consistently that is. Another great thing that I love about it is that It can be done at any time of the day. If I have five minutes to spare and I want time to calm my mind, I’ll simply meditate.

5. Inspiration

It’s easy to be uninspired and not feel much motivation to get things done. However, one thing I often do to feel more enthusiastic is to look at the things that put a smile on my face. This could be anything from coffee table books (my personal fave) to going on walks or even watching my favourite film. There will always be something that’ll put you in a better mood even when you don’t feel like yourself on some days.

I’m not saying you have to use these suggestions in particular in order have a good pick-me-up routine, these are just things I’ve noticed I’ve been doing more of to unwind on my Sundays, so I thought I’d share with good intentions. Happy Sunday! Enjoy your Day!

Lots of love,
