Go-To Eye Look: Summery Shimmer

Lately, I’ve been simplifying my makeup looks when It comes to eyeshadow. I’ve only been using two main products to form one of my favourite beachy looks which is a nice blend of gold lids! Not much of a true gold but more copper-bronzed and suited to my skin tone.

These two products are all I use. I have extremely oily eye lids and ever since last winter I’ve been using a thin layer of NYX’s Waterproof Eyebrow Gel to prime them and never looked back. A little product goes a long way and out of all primers I’ve used to keep my eyeshadow in place, this has worked like a charm!

I used one eyeshadow, “Tiger’s Eye” from Too Faced’s Cat Eyes Palette all over the lids. I started off by buffing this colour on with a flat-shader brush to get a good shape, I then patted a little more product towards the centre of my lids to add dimension.

Finished the look with a good coat of mascara to really let that bronze hue shine through and added the same eyeshadow underneath the crease of my eyes (slightly) to balance things out.

This look complements all eye colours and every skin tone, it just depends on which shade of gold suits you best.

I was really inspired by Serena Van Der Woodson’s (from Gossip Girl ^-^)  bronzey lids that she used to always rock during her summer days! These eyes can go with just about any lip colour/outfit, effortless yet enhancing.

Let me know in the comments what you think.

I’m interested to know if you also have a quick summer makeup/skin routine and what that might conclude. Do you prefer on just enhancing a facial feature, focusing on the eyes, going lightweight on the skin or even creating a more flawless finish to your look? I’d love to know!

Thank you so much for stopping by The Belper!

BLUE HUES: Eyeshadow Look + Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette Review

image

As one of my birthday gifts from my amazing Aunt, I graciously received the Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette. Ironically I mentioned in my previous blog post that I would be playing with more colours in my looks this spring/summer, and I think I have the perfect palette to do so.

In combination with this colourful/wearable look I’ve created, I thought I’d include a review on what I think of the palette.

 Mini Review:

First off, the black/sleek packaging is gorgeous! I literally gasped once I realised what I was opening. With the palette comes a large built-in mirror. It’s durable, meaning it’s a travel friendly makeup item I’d take for the mirror especially.

I had so much fun creating this look. Working out the textures in these eyeshadows was interesting, as I notice they don’t perform ‘well’ when you swatch them but it’s when you apply them onto your lids they’re so soft, pigmented and workable anyone can use this.

I think it’s made for you to pick up the product (with a brush) and work it onto your lid as opposed to a swatch on your hand to tell the quality of the eyeshadow.

They’re so easy to use, even when mixing the shadows they didn’t separate at all.

I love the fact that these shadows are based on the rainbow. There’s so many different looks you can create, from really bright and fresh eyes to really dark and moody eyes the list goes on.

In the future, I feel like it’ll become a makeup essential of mine.

I will say that there was a little bit of fall out but it’s no issue of mine since I do my eyes before my base. Overall I’d recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a colourful palette or if you just want to add a really pretty palette to their collection…

 Creating The Look:

I was inspired to go for a bright ‘Blue Hue’ look on the eyes whilst adamant to keep it simple yet bold at the same time. I think with any eyeshadow look, blending is the most important step towards making a bold colour wearable on the eyes. The main focus was blue. Icy, light blues blended in with touches of pink to suit my skin tone. I personally think this look can suit just about any skin tone with the right colours to complement each other.

image

I used 5 shades out of the palette:

  •  “GOSSIP” (Shimmer/Metallic, Hot Pink)
  • “BLINDSIDED” (Satin/Shimmer, Sea Blue)
  •  “DELIRIOUS” (Sheer Shimmered, Chalky Purple)
  •  “METAMORPHOSIS” (Duo-chrome, Sheer Shimmered, Chalky Blue)
  •  “BUMP” (Matte White)

Priming:

When working with multiple colours, it’s always a good idea to start with an eye primer to get the best out of your eyeshadows. I have extremely oily eye lids when wearing makeup. But I find that when I add a tiny bit of the NYX (waterproof) Eyebrow Gel, my eye makeup will not budge (until I remove it of course). It is a great, yet an affordable way to prime if you have really oily lids like I do. If dry, try a hydrating concealer or just go for a traditional eyeshadow primer.

I set my eye base with a skin-toned eyeshadow (1-2 shades brighter) using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette, although any neutral/warm eyeshadows will do.

image

Full Spectrum Eyeshadow Application:

To make this look more chic, throughout the whole process of the eyeshadow blending I made sure that the shadows were diffused upwards to give my eyes a cat eye shape without needing winged eyeliner.

Starting with “GOSSIP” this shade went slightly on top of L’Orange (ABH Contour Powder, but any orange-toned bronzer will do) to emphasise a smooth transition into the blues.

Next was a pinch of “BLINDSIDED” right underneath “GOSSIP” then going straight in with a synthetic flat shader brush (I used the brush it came with) packing-and-buffing this quickly onto my lids.

I then Mixed both “METAMORPHOSIS” + “BUMP” right over the lids (twice), to help brighten and give a more pastel tone to my lids.

Lastly (this part is optional) I added a little bit of “DELIRIOUS” right over the crease to blend “GOSSIP” and “BLINDSIDED” together, again to help show of the blue slightly more.

Products Used:

💖Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette 💖

  • Eyebrows: Any Brow Pencil
  • Concealer: L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer “Fawn”
  • Foundation: Stila Stay All Day “Cocoa”
  • Powder: Mac Studio Careblend Pressed Powder “Dark”

Contour: ABH Contour Refill Powders “Carob” + “L’Orange”

  • Setting Powder: RCMA “No Colour” Powder
  • Liner: (I only lined my lids without a wing to give a sleeker look) NYX Matte Black Liquid Liner
  • Mascara: Bourjois “Queen Attitude” + Maybelline “Stiletto Voluptuous”
  • Blush: Any Pastel Pink colour will do (on the cheekbones)
  • Highlighter: There are so many cream highlighters, any will work. I like to use a good goat haired blush brush to lightly apply and quickly pat the product onto the tops of my cheekbones. This method will prevent your foundation from moving while giving you a nice glow✨

Thank you to my amazing Aunt @heidimapeza for inspiring me into the world of makeup! As well as this awesome palette to create this look and much more!

THE SPRING LIP EDIT

image

Spring is upon us and lately, I’ve been gearing towards a more fresh-faced makeup look. knowing that I will be doing more colourful looks this spring/summer, I thought I’d share my current go-to makeup look + my favourite lip colour at the moment.

Keeping within the ‘fresh face’ theme, for me, that is clean looking skin + a subtle/bright coloured lipstick. For example, switching from a deep red lip colour to a nude lip makes the biggest difference in anyone’s look with minimal effort. With that being said I’ve rediscovered a lip item that I’ve had in my drawer and haven’t put it down since.

image

image

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick “07 Nude-ist”

The formula of Rouge Edition is the reason why I think this is perfect for spring: It does not dry matte, but once you apply – gives a nourishing, matte finish. A velvet finish if you will.

For me, sometimes I may feel like I don’t want the heaviness of a traditional liquid lipstick, however, I still want a matte-looking lipstick. This lipstick is right in between.

Pigmentation: This is another reason why I love it. Though it may not be to someone else’s ideal, I’d say it is sheer to buildable. Once you apply, it’ll give a sheer amount coverage but since the texture is very creamy, this allows you to add more coverage to your desire without build up.

image

The shade I have is “07 Nude-ist”. This one, in particular, is super versatile and through my eyes, a universal colour – bright, yet subtle.

Depending on what look I’m going for, I like to use a lip liner here and there but when I’m in a rush I simply run this across the centre of my lips and gently blend in with my fingers.

All in all: This has become a lipstick I always have to carry in my makeup bag. Whether it’s when I’m travelling or if I need a something on the lips but don’t know which lipstick to go for. This is a must have.

REVIEW: Mikasa Powder Contour Set

**This review is not sponsored**

On a recent Instagram post, I shared my unboxing of a new brush set I received from of Mikasa Beauty. I wanted to share my thoughts on one of their brush sets I received, as I’ve used them enough to explain how much I love this bundle!

Mikasa Beauty is a new brush company that specialise in creating high quality, high end makeup brushes as your essential tools when it comes to everyday looks or dramatic looks. These brushes give you the luxury to apply your products with precision and ease.

First I’d like to rave about how fast this set came in the mail. The company is located in Canada and I live in the U.K., I ordered this on a Monday and it arrived on Thursday. I was expecting at least another week before it’d arrive at my doorstep, but the fact that the process was simple and straight forward without any delivery complications made me fall in love with the brand already.

The set I ordered was the Mikasa Contour Powder Set.

This set includes:

image

1 of Mikasa E300 – Blending Brush ($12.00 value)

Mikasa’s Description: Best used for controlled blending and smudging of eyeshadows, this tapered medium sized brush has soft bristles and a round top. Over a quick amount of time, this brush has been the one tool I have used for all of looks lately.

I absolutely love this brush, it would be hard to make a mistake with the soft bristles it holds. As well as the right amount of density the shape of the hairs has for precise application. This is definitely one of my top favourite brushes out of the set.

image

1 of Mikasa F111 – Blush Brush ($17.00 value)

Mikasa’s Description: A dome shaped brush with natural bristles that’s ideal for precise application of powder face products. Use this brush to perfectly apply and blend blush and bronzer for a natural glowing complexion.

This brush is so versatile, not only for blush and bronzer but this has been a great brush for setting my makeup. Once again the bristles are so soft while applying which is great and blends very well.

image

1 of Mikasa F250 – Kabuki Brush ($21.00 value)

Mikasa’s Description: The perfect brush for buffing on powder products for a flawless finish. The short handle and soft, fluffy bristles allows for smooth, controlled application.

image

1 of Mikasa Techni O2 Oval (S) Brush ($25.00 value)

Mikasa’s Description: The perfect multi-purpose tool. This brush can be used for precise application of Contour products. It can also be used to apply a soft wash of colour to the eyelid or brow bone. It easily blends Powder or cream eye shadows, face powders and liquid or cream concealers in the hard-to-reach contours of the face. Made of 100% synthetic fibres. Features an ultra-durable, flexible handle, and a tilted brush head for ultimate precision.

I think out of all the brushes in this set, this brush was the one I was quite intrigued by the most. I have not used an oval brush before but when I tried this to apply my cream products it felt absolutely smooth on the skin. I’d recommend Mikasa Oval brushes as these do have the quality feel and smooth bristles that are at times hard to find with the huge market of oval brushes.

image

**This brush was kindly sent to me for free from Mikasa so it would not be included in the set**

1 of Mikasa E310 Pencil Brush ($12.00 Value)

Mikasa’s Description: This brush has a small, rounded tapered tip that allows for precise application and smudging of powder products. It can be used to soften eyeliners or to highlight inner corners of your eyes.

From highlighting certain places of the face to letting you create a smoked out blended look, this is lovely multi-tasking brush to have in your collection.

Each brush came in their own little box fitted to its shape individually and I absolutely loved the sleek finish packaging it arrived in. On each box, had the name of which brush was inside and what it was used for. Along followed directions on how to take care of them, which I thought was very helpful. Overall, when I saw the brushes I immediately thought of how clean cut and great quality the handles were – I couldn’t wait to use them. I’ve been using these brushes for about over a week now and I can’t get over how soft they feel, it’s lovely. Whether it’s an everyday look you’re going for or a detailed glam, they’re so versatile and I love it!

The Mikasa Brushes can be bought individually in case you have your eyes on a specific brush, though I would 100% recommend this set in particular as this really has your go-to essential tools for just about any makeup look you want to create.

If you’re someone who needs a staple essential kit for your face routine, or you’re a makeup artist that’s looking for good contour brushes to add to your kit, or if you just love adding another nice brush set to your collection then this is for you.

This set retails for $55 (with value of $75).

I think the quality of these brushes is amazing and worth every penny. I will be purchasing more of the Mikasa collection in the near future.

REVIEW: Erno Laszlo Timeless Skin System

image

This review is not sponsored.

I’ve always been obsessed with skincare and the luxury of a good regimen. However, for a long time, I felt I didn’t have the right products to keep my skin blemish free.

In the past, I’ve suffered from acne scarring and clogged pores; It was this month I decided to look into finding the best solution for my skin regimen. Going back to about a year ago, I was browsing on the Net-A-Porter website. I would always check the ‘what’s new’ tab and refine it to the ‘beauty’ section. From there, I’d go onto ‘skincare’ and look at almost everything that was listed. That is when I first came across the Erno Laszlo skin care range.

Founded by the late Dr Laszlo in 1927, Erno Laszlo was the first dermatologist to develop a skin care ‘Cleansing Ritual’ which he appropriately named the most iconic cleansing system in the world with a long list of clients from Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe and more.

I decided to try the products I remembered stood out to me the most. Their Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar, part of their Timeless Skin System. This bar is made using 97% natural ingredients, meant to hydrate and restore the skins mineral levels. While gently exfoliating your skin to remove dead cells, resulting in the brighter looking skin. Erno Laszlo also has a line of different bars for different skin types, retailing for around £39. The Deep Cleansing Bar definitely caught my eye. Having looked at many reviews as possible on it, I could not find a review giving this a thumb down. I then convinced myself to go for it and buy the bar. At the time (this was about 2 weeks ago) The Net-A-Porter website had run out of stock of the bar so my lazy-self forgot about it. The next day my mother and I were shopping in TK Maxx. I normally always go to the beauty section to see if there’s anything on offer worth buying. For the first time, I actually came face to face with part of the Erno Laszlo collection. As well as a couple of individual products like their serums and toners. On the shelf were a couple of different skincare sets, I then picked up the box with the Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar on the picture packaging filled with excitement and bought this set for just £12.99 which are a snippet on the rrp price. Considering the Erno Laszlo’s price range, I thought that was a steal!

After yapping to my mother about how this happened on the way home, I took the box again and started reading about the second product I received In the set. In this box was a full-size Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar (150g) that comes in a glossy white and black, plastic container (suitable for travelling). And the Phelityl Pre-Cleansing Oil (200ml). I noticed the Pre-Cleansing Oil while browsing the line although, I didn’t think much of it at the time.

image

This duo is called the ‘Anti-Ageing Ritual’ designed for both products to basically work together, helping your skin achieve the ‘Laszlo Glow’.

Following the instructions on the box; Prep, Cleanse, Splash. I First apply a small amount (a little goes a long way) of The Pre-Cleansing Oil onto the palm of my hand, using both hands to massage the product on my dry face. It is also designed to be optionally used as an oil based makeup remover. I remove my makeup with wipes prior, as that’s just my preference.

Once the oil is distributed all over my face, I run the Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar under lukewarm water and massage the soap all over my face – avoiding eyes and lips.

I then rinse off the product by splashing my face with cold water to close up my pores. Following up with a toner and moisturiser to finish off my routine.

The first time I used this, my skin instantly felt clean and lifted. I’ve been using this for 2 weeks and usually when I test a new skin care product, whether it gives me breakouts or not I like to give my skin time to get used to the product before I can tell if it’s good for me or not.

With this duo, I did receive a couple spots, however, the next day they were dried out and ready to come off my skin. I will say the bar does a great job at deep cleaning, as those spots were caused by the dirt build up. The oil and bar fully extracted all the dirt build up. The end result was an exceptionally clean face.

Using this bar daily, I don’t even need an exfoliating product – that’s how purifying the bar is without being too harsh on my skin.

As a person who wears makeup all the time, I wanted something to clean my skin in a way that’ll clean out my pores without drying my skin. I have combination to normal skin, and with a hydrating moisturiser, I will say my skin has gotten a lot better and had no issues with these products at all.

Although I did purchase this set on a deal I would (and will) repurchase this product again at full price because I think it is worth it. It’s very effective on the skin which I like – and I can understand this coming as a duo with the Pre-Cleansing Oil as that’s what helps keep your skin nourished while cleaning your face.

image

If you have been looking for an effective cleanser or if you’ve been on the hunt for a simple yet nourishing oil for your face to prep for cleansing, I’d say this is the product for you.

Or if you’ve also recently discovered Erno Laszlo and just wanted to see a review on a couple of their products, I highly recommend you try them out.

I absolutely love the fact that nowadays I see myself actually looking forward to doing my skincare routine every morning and night. these products do have a luxurious feel to them, giving me and my skin less stress to worry about what to use or if I’m using the right product.

My skin feels great after using this set and I will be looking into more of the Erno Laszlo range.

“I owe 50% of my beauty to my mother and the other 50% to Erno Laszlo.” –Audrey Hepburn.
